FLOOD DANGER:  PRENTICE EXAMINES  THE BAY OF FUNDY
The United Nations identified the Bay of Fundy as one of the most vulnerable areas in North America that could be damaged due to rising sea levels resulting from global warming. MP Bill Casey recently brought this to the attention of Environment Minister, Jim Prentice, who will "identify resources that will be available to access the vulnerability of [the] shoreline." More>

US Emission Regulation 
 
US MID-TERM TARGET ESSENTIAL FOR AVOIDING DANGEROUS WARMING
Climate Analytics, a non-profit research group, released a report that looked at the relationship between the likely US mid-term GHG target and the risk of global temperatures exceeding 2 degrees Celsius. It concluded that as the US is the leader among industrialized countries, it must reduce it's emissions by 25-40% by 2020. News Release and Report Link>

UNEP RELEASES POLICY BRIEF ON GLOBAL GREEN NEW DEAL FOR G20
 
The UN Environment Programme policy brief calls for the investment of "1% of global GDP in the energy efficiency of buildings, renewable energy, sustainable transport, ecological infrastructure and sustainable agriculture," and hopes to influence the upcoming G20 meeting in London, UK. More>

SHELL FAVORS BIOFUELS AND CCS OVER WIND, SOLAR AND HYDRO PROJECTS
Last week, Shell announced that it would no longer invest in renewable technologies such as wind, solar and hydro power because they do not offer attractive enough investment opportunities. They said they would instead focus on biofuels and carbon capture and storage. More>
