DENE NATION CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE HALT TO TAR SANDS EXPANSION
The Dene National Leadership meeting unanimously approved a motion calling on "the Government of Alberta to immediately halt tar sands expansion" until five conditions are met. They also resolved that, until these conditions are met, governments should "implement a low carbon fuel standard that would decrease reliance on, or entirely eliminate the use of, dirty tar sands oil." Nova Scotia released a discussion paper that outlines its proposed approach to capping greenhouse-gas and air-pollution emissions from the electricity sector. More>

Ontario released its Green Energy and Green Economy Act which focuses on renewables, energy efficiency, and a greening of the economy. More>

Climate Change Accountability Act: Bill C-311 
 
RE-INTRODUCTION OF THE CLIMATE CHANGE ACCOUNTABILITY ACT INTO THE HOUSE
On February 10, the NDP re-introduced The Climate Change Accountability Act into the House of Commons. The purpose of the bill is for Canada to contribute "fully to the stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system." Over 30 organizations working on climate change released an open letter to federal party leaders calling on them to pass Bill C-311, the Climate Change Accountability Act, before Parliament's summer break begins on June 23. More>

CARBON OBSERVATORY CRASHES
 On February 24, shortly after launch, the Orbital Carbon Observatory (OCO) was unable to get into orbit and crashed into the Antarctic Ocean. Many are disappointed as the shuttle was supposed to aid in mapping global carbon sources and sinks. More>

Climate Action Network Canada - Rseau action climat Canada seeks an enthusiastic individual to assist with efforts to raise awareness about the impacts of climate change in Canada's North and the steps that need to be taken to avoid dangerous climate change and address ongoing impacts.
