BILL INTRODUCED IN PARLIMENT WOULD SET SCIENCE-BASED GHG REDUCTION TARGETS

The New Democratic Party of Canada have reintroduced Bill C 377 the Climate Change Accountability Act. This act would provide the necessary tools and targets for the federal government to sufficiently reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to avoid dangerous climate change by 2050.

ENVIRONMENT COMMISSIONER EXPOSES GOVERNMENT CLIMATE FIASCO

SmokestacksThe government spent hundreds of millions of dollars on a climate change program that they should have known wasn't going to deliver significant greenhouse gas reductions, and $1.5 billion on another program without any way of accounting for its impacts. Is this incompetence, or are these fake environmental programs? Based on a recent report from the Environment Commissioner, it looks like key government climate programs were actually tax cuts and financial transfers dressed up to look like climate action.

RECORD HEAT FANS AUSTRALIAN BUSHFIRES

Scientists are reluctant to directly link the Australian brushfires with climate change, because natural variability always holds out the possibility of extreme weather. However, scientists have predicted that climate change will make Australian bushfires worse, more intense, more destructive and more extensive.

STUDY FINDS THAT U.S. STIMULUS WILL HELP FIGHT GLOBAL WARMING

A new Greenpeace-commissioned carbon footprint analysis of the U.S. economic recovery package shows that the bill's energy efficiency and conservation provisions alone could cut carbon dioxide emissions by over 61 million metric tons annually, equivalent to the greenhouse gases from electricity use in 7.9 million American homes or taking over 13 million cars off the road. The analysis was conducted by ICF International, a leading climate and energy consulting firm for governments, Fortune 500 companies, and non-profits (
