“Any carbon tax must be fair to ordinary working families, especially to lower income people. And there are ways to achieve that objective through the tax system. The environmental community as a whole strongly believes that putting a price on carbon emissions is a key part of the solution to climate change.”

Statement on Stephen Harper’s “Environmental Enforcement Action Plan”

"Harper’s Environmental Enforcement Plan is meaningless, because the regulations being enforced are generally very weak. Harper is touting his climate change energy plan, but this plan is designed to achieve emission reductions of less than three per cent below 1990 levels by 2020. The international scientific community has determined that emissions by developed countries must be reduced at least 25 per cent by 2020 in order to avoid catastrophic climate change impacts."

David Martin, Greenpeace Canada
